The Aragon river

The Rio ARAGON

This stream, which gave its name to the Province, is one of the most beautiful Pyrenean torrents, but unfortunately, it is cut in bits by the power stations !
However, the dams do not have only disadvantages for us fanatical fly fishermen: they also regulate water levels, and can make the Aragon fishable, whilst other rivers are in spate after rain storms. The rio Aragon is home to brown trout that like to rise, and is also fun to fish with beaded nymphs.
The Rio Aragon above Jaca is a pretty small and fast flowing river that hosts a large population of relatively small trout. The Coto social de Villanueva is a tail water stretch with regulated water levels, ans is home to a few 20 to 24" trout.
Below the city of Jaca (worth a visit, by the way), it is a much larger and more powerful river, with interesting spots for fishing big fish.
